The Hammersmith Hardmen present: My Bottom

One sad old git discussing the legendary, awesome, fiendish 90s sitcom Bottom. From those who starred in the show, famous fans and other people like me who share a deep obsession with the Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson masterpiece. Reflecting on classic episodes and performances while recalling where and how Bottom found it’s way into peoples lives, and why it is still there now more than 30 years since it first aired. Brought to you by Ross little, better known as that bloke who runs The Hammersmith Hardmen Instagram page. Art work credit: Slip Digby (not the organist). @SlipDigbyArt on Instagram.

Part one of episode five of the podcast, Your Bottom, explores everything that the show means to you - the fans of Bottom.
In this very special two-part video podcast I am joined by a brilliant guest host in the form of Katie Thompson. Katie is a multitalented bird, dipping her toes in everything from her business, Katie Lingo, which specialises digital marketing, copywriting, data visualisation and much more. Away from this Katie is also a sometimes presenter, stand up comic and blogger.
Most importantly though, Katie is a MASSIVE Bottom fan!
Join us as we discuss all of the things that you have told me that Bottom means to YOU, the fans. Including Rik and Ade’s wonderful chemistry, Rik’s incredible range of facial expressions, favourite quotes and moments and how the show reminds you of friends, family, good times and delivers a whacking great hit of nostalgia and comfort.
So settle in with us for two parts of pure Bottom chat. Part two follows immediately after part one.

Episode three: My First Bottom

Tuesday Mar 19, 2024

Tuesday Mar 19, 2024

I go all the way back to 1994 to recall how the 10 year old me first stumbled across Bottom one Friday night.
I discuss how waiting for Red Dwarf led me to Bottom, cheese on toast, the back flipping BBC2 icon, swimming lessons, a VHS of Apocalypse and how I don't actually remember which episode was my first Bottom.
From marvelling at naughty words and cartoon violence to my very first crush, My First Bottom marks the start of my Bottom journey that has led me to becoming The Hammersmith Hardmen.

Tuesday Mar 05, 2024

In today's episode I am joined by Lucy from Rik Mayall Scrapbook to discuss all things Rik and Bottom. Including:
- Being in the audience for the recording of Gas
- Experiences of seeing the first live show twice
- A close encounter with Chief Inspector Grobbelaar
- Meeting Rik himself

Sunday Feb 25, 2024

In this debut episode of the Hammersmith Hardmen Present: My Bottom I have the complete honour of talking to someone who appeared in not one, but two episodes of Bottom....as two different characters.
Helen Lederer will most likely be remembered by Bottom fans from her appearance in the episode Digger as Lady Natasha Letitia Sarah Jane Wellesley Obstromsky Ponsonsky Smythe Smythe Smythe Smythe Smythe Smythe Oblomov Boblomov Dob, Third Viscountess of Moldavia.
In this very special first episode Helen talks me through her comedy career. From finding her way as a young female stand up comic, through her many television appearances and focussing on her roles in Bottom, to the current place in time as she gears up for the release of her memoir "Not That I'm Bitter" later this year.
